Sea Creatures and Prepositions

And we are all still teaching online... My teens group is studying sea creatures and some prepositions of place:  next to, on, under, between. Our online classes have to be very visual so, besides the slides,   I decided to make these paper puppets to help them understand these different prepositions. These were also made by drawing on the inside of boxes and after I cut them out, I glued them onto chopsticks. Students also made their own and we placed the animals in different situations and asked each other questions like: Where is the octopus? and the answer could be: It's next to the seaweed or It's between the starfish and the dophin.  It's good to know that I'll be able to use these when we all go back to our classrooms.

Fun Funny Faces

It's the end of May 2020 and the world is still somewhat upside down, so having fun with your students is essential for your health and theirs. My first grade group was learning about parts of the body and again Pinterest inspired me to make these eyes, nose and mouth props to help them practice the vocabulary. I used them to teach the vocabulary and the students later also created their own. We cut open some boxes and drew the parts of the faces on the inside. I loved them, my cat, not so much.

Story Wheels Once Again!

These Story Wheels can be used in several different ways. I used them in 2 different classes as first day activities. In one class, students were very young, around 8 years old, so I had students draw and talk about their likes and dislikes. They shared their circles in small groups. In another class, students' average age was 12 years old and they were at an intermediate level. I had them draw and then talk in pairs about important moments in their lives. The circles are easy to make. You just need to circles of the same size, one has an opening so you can see the drawings on the other circle. After students have made their drawings, you put the circles together using a brad. There are just soooo many ways you can use these circles and it really lets students get creative.
